The past is a foreign country: neo-Victorian novels and the theatre of memory

The focus of this module is on contemporary novels set in the nineteenth century. We will explore the current fascination with neo-Victorianism, the production of historical narratives, and the complex interactions between history and fiction. The module consists of both lectures and workshops. The lectures will address general issues related to neo-Victorianism as a cultural phenomenon; in the workshops students will present their own analysis of selected texts.
